SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27

Congratulating John Joseph Kenneth Cole, West Virginia
University's thirteenth Truman Scholar.
Whereas, John Joseph Kenneth Cole was born in Fairmont,
Marion County, West Virginia, in 1971, the son of Burhl and Bille
Cole; and
Whereas, After graduating from Fairmont Senior High School
with honors, John Joseph Kenneth Cole entered West Virginia
University as a presidential scholar, majoring in political
science and history; and
Whereas, John Joseph Kenneth Cole has been elected or
appointed to a myriad of positions at West Virginia University,
including president of Helvetia, the university's sophomore
honorary; chairman of the administration's committee on Academic
Advancement; administrative intern for the Governor's Honors
Academy; and chairman of the Morgantown meeting in the statewide
H.E.A.T. process. He also was a co-spokesperson for the West
Virginia Students United for Relief in Florida, which assisted in
relief and reconstruction following the devastation of Hurricane
Andrew; and
Whereas, In March, 1993, John Joseph Kenneth Cole was named
West Virginia University's thirteenth Truman Scholar, an honor
bestowed nationally upon 100 college juniors for senior andgraduate study, established by an act of Congress in 1975 to
honor the memory of former President Harry S. Truman, which
scholarship is valued at thirty thousand dollars; therefore, be
it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby congratulates John Joseph Kenneth
Cole for his selection as a Truman Scholar and for his dedicated
service to his fellow student as well as his public service to
his fellow man; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to John Joseph Kenneth Cole;
the president of West Virginia University; and the principal of
Fairmont Senior High School.
